Best Restaurants for Tapas Leeds – Spanish tapas conjures up holiday memories of times spent in Mediterranean bars enjoying delicious local delicacies along with your Pina Colada. But where did tapas originate?

Interesting fact – Tapa in Spanish means to ” cover” or ” lid” and a popular tale describing the origin of tapas is that it is the result of bar keepers using of bread or some meat and cheese to cover customers’ glasses to keep out debris and flies. Another story goes back many years to the time of King Alfonso X ‘The Wise’ . He is said to have enjoyed small plates  of food to offset the effects of the large amounts of wine he drank while he was unwell and bedridden. When he recovered, he declared the small bites and wine combination mandatory to his people. However it originated, we can all agree its delicious. So, lets check out the 5 Best Tapas Restaurants Leeds.

Best Japanese Restaurants in Leeds – Japanese food is one of the top rated cuisines in the world. It may be surprising to learn that the Michelin Guide has presented a maximum number of Michelin stars to Japanese restaurants. The Japanese are obviously dedicated foodies! Interestingly, Tokyo has more restaurants than any other city in the world, with an estimated 150,000 venues. For comparison,  in 2018 there were 88,848 businesses operating in the restaurant and mobile food service industry in the UK!

A fun and slightly crazy fact about Japanese food is about Fugu. Fugu, the Japanese pufferfish, contains one of the world’s most potent toxins.  Highly trained Fugu chefs must be licensed to remove the potentially deadly organs. Despite the risks, around 10,000 tons of fugu is eaten annually in Japan, where it is considered a winter delicacy. Lets look at the Best Japanese Restaurants in Leeds.

Indian Restaurant Leeds – Indian food is hugely popular in the UK. Have you ever wondered why Indian food is usually so spicy? Indian curries use so much spice for a number of reasons. In hot climates like India, bacteria will spoil food quickly, yet spices have antibacterial properties and can kill 75% of the bacteria in food. Spices are also healthy with antioxidants and of course they also provide a variety of delicious flavours.

Interestingly though,  in India you won’t find curry powder in grocery stores and you won’t find curry dishes at local restaurants. Indians don’t use “curry,” because this is a word the British created to refer to all Indian dishes. Through the years, and with thanks to foreigners the word curry has come to describe many Indian dishes.

Here we have the Best Indian Restaurants in Leeds.

Best Chinese Restaurants in Leeds – The history of Chinese food goes back several thousand years to the earliest days of this ancient civilization. Its forms have changed from time to time, moulded  by new fashions, climate,  local preferences and influences from surrounding cultures. The tabloid relentlessly mocked the food, but it was a huge hit with the public, and the rest was, of course , noodle history.  Let’s check out the Best Chinese Restaurants in Leeds.

Best Italian Restaurants in Leeds – Italian food…the glorious delights of the pizza and pasta dishes that we have all come to know so well. Before we dive into the Best Italian Restaurants in Leeds I’m going to share with you some fascinating facts that you can dazzle your friends with next time you are enjoying a spag bol together.  Did you know that in Italy spaghetti bolognese isn’t served with spaghetti at all, but with tagliatelle? In-fact the Italians don’t even call it bolognese, they call it ragu! The reason  us foreigners use a different name? Legend has it that in WW2, foreign soldiers passed through the city of Bologna were introduced to this wonderful sauce. On returning home they wanted to recreate this delicious pasta dish that they had enjoyed so much but they couldn’t remember the original name  so it became the sauce of Bologna, the Bolognese sauce. What we do know as fact is that you will not find spaghetti bolognese on the menu of any self respecting Italian restaurant!  Anyway, you are here to find Italian restaurants in Leeds –

The Lost and Found Leeds Restaurant Review – A while ago I tried out The Lost and Found restaurant in the Leeds Club on Albion Place.  It’s housed in a truly beautiful building, with a comfortable and quirky interior vibe. Set over two floors with a airy and light bar and comfortable seating downstairs and the main restaurant upstairs (you can eat in the bar too). Oh, and outside tables for a nice street bistro feel.  They serve lunch, brunch and dinner.

It was a very hot day and we had the large doors that opened onto a Juliet balcony.

We went for a three course meal (all the better for the food photos) but they do other offers too, like the bottomless brunch which includes any brunch dish with bottomless Bloody Mary’s, Mimosas, Bellinis or Prosecco by the glass for £25.00 (and you get to sit there for two hours in case you are wondering, which I totally was).

The Lost and Found Leeds Restaurant

The Lost and Found in Leeds has a marvellous cocktail menu as we found out, with treasures such as this St Clementine’s Garden.

The Lost and Found Leeds Restaurant Review (

And this Waterhouse Fizz (verdict – this one was a bit sweet – we recommend the St Clementine instead!)  I loved the cornflower though!

They also have a selection of ‘temperance’ (ie non-alcoholic) cocktails for us drivers and I sampled the Summer Orchard, apple juice, elderflower syrup, muddled limes and mint.  Was just like drinking a mojito!

And the Hedgerow Cooler, blackberries, apple juice, soda, lemon juice and lavender syrup.

cocktails - The Lost and Found Leeds Restaurant Review

Moving into the food, we both chose the grilled chicken skewers in satay sauce with cucumber, carrot, spring onion and coriander.  This was delicious, very Asian inspired.  It was also large for a starter.

Then, I chose the BBQ pork belly with new potato, spring onion & sour cream salad and a chipotle & lime coleslaw.

The Lost and Found Leeds Restaurant Review

I enjoyed this very much. The pork was really tender like pulled pork, but more succulent, with a fab flavoured sauce, given a smoky flavour from the josper. For those who have never heard of a josper before (ie like me), it is a large charcoal oven.  You could see it from the restaurant:

My guest chose the Wagyu beef burger, which would have been my second choice. A good sized burger (that was excellent apparently) in a fresh bun with salad. The fries, I can attest from having stolen a couple were very tasty indeed.

Burger - The Lost and Found Leeds Restaurant Review

By this point I was very full indeed, but for the benefit of you, dear reader, I managed to order the dessert course. Besides, dessert photos are usually the prettiest! So here we have Millionaire’s shortbread with dark chocolate, sticky whisky caramel, honeycomb and a rich chocolate ice cream.

I chose one of my all time favourites White chocolate and Raspberry Eton Mess with vanilla cream, fresh raspberries, meringue and raspberry sorbet.

Dessert -The Lost and Found Leeds Restaurant Review

The presentation was beautiful, though I think I would have liked more meringue, mainly because I love meringue!

Overall we had a fabulous meal.  All the staff we came into contact with were welcoming and friendly too which always gives a place a nice atmosphere.  The Lost and Found Leeds makes a great lunch or dinner place or even a comfortable place for afternoon coffee (definitely check it out rather than scrabbling for a table in Costa).  The bottomless brunch sounds an amazing idea too!
